harewood August 6th - 2017 - Montague Burton Trophy

Post by rich@minispares.com »

as C19 was so much fun, we are looking at another trip to Harewood, to the Montague Burton trophy - I think this has the added attraction of there been a hipster classic car show at the same time.

see

http://www.fueledsociety.com/

for details (obvs full blown hipster beards / tramp growths are a MUST  )

I'm just trying to pin the organiser down as to which class suits us best, and I haven't got a firm answer yet, but will keep advised

This clashes with the Croft Nostalgia, but as that is a two day do I think I might go and see what this is all about. I've got a check shirt, two months not shaving is a piece of piss and looking at the Team pictures all I need is a pair of crap sunglasses.

How about a Mk1 Performance Stand in the club area?

sounds like a plan!

I'm just trying to pin the lady who does all the entries down as to which class suits us best, either 1A or 6C s it will depend on msa logbooks etc

the rules are literally clear as mud

As a former long time hill climber who did the first Harewood event to use the by then almost universal roadgoing regs stipulating List 1A tyres (replacing the bizarre "Touring" category that was unique to the BARC), I don't understand why you want to find "a" class.
The class regs cover the full cross section of vehicles and are perfectly clear to those who actually read them. A mix of Minis of various states of modification will never fit just one class. One make classes are unfair to other entrants by taking away the cars that naturally fit into the existing classes (and thus affecting some championships in a way that may not be obvious to all). What is the problem with entering the correct class for each car? If you want to compare your Mini times in a different manner from the official results, the data is there to do so.

the entry lady suggested class 6C, whilst we thought 1A, this is why I'm trying to find which is best for us

none of use are in any championship, and see it more of a day out with mates, so its what ever is easier for her, the issue is more with lack of msa logbooks, cages etc etc.

I always feel that its the endless classes and muddy rules that put people off entering hillclimbs as newcomers - this is why the C19 from the weekend is so good for 'first timers' as it is so laid back

Very true Rich.
It's ok if you are a 'long time hillclimber' but I wouldn't have had a clue how to enter my first event if it wasn't for the forum and class C19.

I would be interested in an August hill climb my car is a 91 mk3 shell 69 reg, I didn't enter on previous outings because I thought my car wouldn't comply. I see from Stu's pictures I wouldn't be the only one. :?

I think all we mean is a class that we can all run in together , line up together in the paddock , run what you bring, have crack together, rather than being all over the paddock in different classes, there's no championship at risk, its just a bit of crack, On Sunday there was a Jaguar owners class with all sorts in it , and I see on the entry list for this event there's a Bugatti Classic class (as below) with a Mini in it and a Brabham single seater, we just need a "club class", Do DEWS not run a similar class structure ?

Class

Bugatti Classic

Phil Chatterton Brabham BT18 1560 BARC(Y) Daventry
Matt Clarke Austin Mini 1460 BOC Wells
Philip Stader Mallock MK11 1700 HSA Cheltenham
Andy Tippett Russell Alexis 1600 BOC Moreton in Marsh
Steve Phennah MGB Roadster 1840 BOC Upton Snodbury
Simon Cox Austun Mini Ritz 1380 BOC Oxford
Steve "Murph"
---------------------------------------------
1960 Morris Mini-Minor 1380 KEC112
1976 Mini 1275 GT 1293 NVM265P

you have to be a member of the Bugatti club championship to be able to enter their class.

I think class 6C is the one to enter, its the one Jackie has said is most suitable for us.

looking at last years results, the cars that enter it all finish a couple of seconds faster than the C19 record, so there will be no danger of other people moaning that the minis are spoiling any class records etc.

I'm going to enter my GTM into that.

Thanks guys. I'll get a Sunday ticket booked up then.

PS By the way what do we need to do to organise a forum stand at Harewood?
