It isn't anything like the usual "long range" tank I've seen before which was more like an extension of an existing tank across the TOP of the boot space.
It is very specifically shaped isn't it and I cannot offhand think what it is built to fit around. Probably from something different altogether. He HAS had some interesting items hasn't he!

The three holes for the leather bonnet strap are there under the badge as per some late works cars, though the '69 racers/rallycross cars usually had bonnet grips either side, the holes for which aren't evident. The TDF cars had a central strap like this though and no grips.

In fact weren't the few Mk2 cars that had the above parts the '69 TDF cars! Sumpguard, lamps socket, centre bonnet strap, quick lift brackets ali panels? Were there any others? Remember comps sold 'em all off pretty much after '69.
URX 550G didn't have ali panels though!

I asked the seller for information on the door,if it was just the skin in aluminium, and asked which car these parts came from.
The car in question, URX560G.
My feeble bids all fell short of the mark!

Wow, so my hunch was pretty good!

So this car that was at Cholmondeley is not all it appears to be?

URX still had its alloy bonnet, boot, doors when it was with us a few months back.

The car is still on the DVLA database
URX 560G
✓ Taxed
Tax due:
01 May 2018
✓ MOT
Expires:
30 July 2017
Surely, publicly removing ex-works parts from the car would destroy it's provenance. Unless there were more additional parts somewhere.

Lots of parts get removed off cars over a fifty year period and to be fair there's no real substantiation here of URX 560G being scrapped, even if the Ebay seller believes so. The logbook has certainly been in existance on a car for a continuous time, I'm sure Simon will have something to say about it. Hope he had a chance to buy some of the parts off Ebay??

Well that's all it takes, a bit of hear say on Ebay, and the history of a car gets questioned. Good luck to those compiling the works car history on the Mini Cooper Forum.

I believe the information recorded already on
www.minicooperforum.org about ex-works cars is interesting. I note it documents mainly the Abingdon works period for each registration. I don’t see documenting that period as being contentious at all, why would it be?
As another member on this forum has already stated forgetting about what happened to these registrations / cars after they left Abingdon is a good idea as many know a large percent of these cars and their later history is fictional bullshit being nothing more than replicas with ex-works registrations.
