I have had the Brian Purves book for a while.....and have looked through the pictures, which are very interesting. My interests were distracted from Minis through the 90's and 2000's so I lost touch, but I'd be interested to know how many minis were classed as ' Works ' during this period, and where they are now. Any info appreciated

I know it isn't necessarily mk1 related...just interesting, and for me, inspired by a recent Rover purchase.

Dave, I too have interest in the late ex-works Minis as they were the most developed and most powerful cars. Sorry, I can't help with your question, I would like to know this information as well.

Have this ST catalogue for 20 years now in my collection.
This is a real WORKS Mini in my opinion.

Must admit that I had thought of the ST booklet but couldn't remember the year. It is interesting that it was dated 1997. I might be wrong but I thought that 1994 was the first "revival" of the works mini cars when they entered the Monte. The Italian car was entered in the 1997 event. I think all the cars were financially supported by Rover (the penultimate successor to BMC) so could be classed as works cars but if memory is still with me the cars were prepared by a company in Kent and one of the cars was stolen just before an event.
In the current WRC series I suppose the Manufacturer's class = works entries.

I have been involved in trying to set accurate descriptions for some other makes that fall into that category. "Works assisted" is as far as I would be prepared to go. "Works" is not a description I would support for these particular Minis. I was never greatly interested in those cars (any more than I am in any "modern" Mini, which is a small BMWs as far as I am concerned). Didn't the "works" financial assistance dry up or not get paid?

Fascinating to revisit the story.. I have a plastic model kit of the NEKO car somewhere at the back of a cupboard... must look it out.

The MSpares article mentions another article by Mr Dodds recounting the buildup of the car ..but I couldn't find it. Does someone have a link?
