What's left to devalue? A fifty year old probably cracked head?

If they prove to run fine Ie not cracked or porous I will be very intrested in purchasing one and vegard the original ones aren't all cracked as mine certainly Isn't .if they are sound I think it's good value for something a bit unusual .

Agreed .................none of mine are cracked either
The price looks about right for a reproduction.

I'd much rather use a cast iron head than a alloy one any day. ..
Besides the arden was intended for small bore, weslakes were built for the big boys

any proof that the arden was intended for small bore engines?, or are you getting confused in that it was often used on destroked large bores? - the 850cc, 999cc ones used in period would have been based on 970 engines and where done to get into various race classes that had a size limit.

Triple dilemma time !!
Arden, alloy Weslake, or an iron Weslake to choose from.

the sensible thing will be to buy all three, then you can provide us with engine dyno data, all costs, and reliability of the heads in use!

Agree, and I'm tempted but then what can you use them for in competition nowadays? Ironically it looks like most will be sold for use on road cars and if that's the case that's a whole lot of buck for any potential extra bang.

Only thing that springs to mind is Sprints & hill climb mod Prod class (C1) and normal stage rallying.

to follow up on others comments. As Jim Whitehouse designed the Arden head for Gordon Spice and his 1275, why would the head be for small bore or small capacity?

Competition racing/hill climbs ? I go to the shops in mine

haven't found any cracks on mine but according to the guy I bought them from they weren't raced a lot in the late 60s/70s until he stored them dry for many years.
Well besides going to the shops
or sprinting both Arden as well as the Weslake could be used for App K racing. But I only know Astro who used to race an Arden and tried to do so with a repro Weslake in french App K hillclimbs.
Somehow both aren't really popular in terms of App K racing but besides the "group 1" clubman GTs there aren't any post 65 App K Minis at least I know of. What's the reason of that?
