Door squares or not

I know it won't make it go any faster but I am going to be doing (or planning too at least!) more road rally's.

The car currently has them but is going through a little "freshen up" and being painted.

So do they stay or go?? what's the experience out there on how they are accepted at scruit?

I must admit, I do like the "works" look and that's what's wanting me to keep them but I gather they may not go down too well?

Looking at events in the mag's, a fair few seem to be running them.

Just to clarify - that's Road Rallies as defined by the permit. They're acceptable on Navigational permit events, although sometimes frowned on. You should have word with your local club(s).

Lose 'em David, not worth the hassle , and as Surf 1275 suggests you can always fit magnetic jobbies.

just seen this, i have painted squares on the rallycar, for a seasons rallying i cover them with low tac vinyl panels in matt red , scruitineers are more than happy with this, any time the car is elsewhere ie not competing, i remove the vinyl cover ups ,

as it should be

To make the cars look less like rally cars, thereby (supposedly) giving a better view of the sport to the public.

However talk to just about any classic rally organiser and most of the public that get PRd would like to see the cars as they were, not some 'disguised' version.

Where to get vinyl mat though in different colours. How about orange and BMC Blaze.

Incidentally I agree that it's a piece of nonsense. Apart from the mandarins in the MSA no one has a good word to say about it.

Not only your paint. I've seen them come off, fly up into the air and land on the next car in a (slow) pre-sprint convoy run.

Well Dave you ask a question and you get a dozen different opinions, that'll teach you. Must say I never scratched my doors (??) and they never flew off in three seasons sprinting, must have been plenty of filler in those doors !

There are different thicknesses of material, the thinner it is the more likely it is to fly off. If the door is clean and you apply them properly then they shouldn't scratch the paint at all.

Maybe I could utilse a few of the option's:-

1.Get quality ones (found a place that sell it by the sheet. No OEW though, just white)

2. Kinda hoping there is no filler in the doors and that they are all steel, not a combination of fibre matting and kellogs boxes!

3. Apply a good coat of polish before hand.

4.Maybe tape the edges if they seem to flp about.

5. Take them off when not being used and make sure they are clean.

I did ask, didn't I.

Still, if it scratches or flick off and lands on another car/person and cause's damage...perhaps I could send the bill to the MSA for making up a daft rule and stoping THEIR member's making full use of their cars without always incurring additional cost's (Unless your in the click and therefore earn a small fortune, own a venue, sleep with the daughter of one of the MSA directors)!!

I've been debating whether to go with door squares on my latest project as well.
What do you all think - Sandalwood Beige bodywork - white or black squares?

Not 100% certain, but pretty sure that if you are going to use it in events, they have to be white.
