Engine Paint and Associated Parts

Done a bit of searching and kind of got some of the answers but just thought i'd start a thread to clarify a bit more.

First off, in regards to giving the engine a new lick of paint. I see there are a number of suppliers offering the BMC Green or MOWOG Green as i've also seen it. Question is, are all these paints much of a muchness or does anyone have a recommended scource for the correct stuff that they'd recommend?

Secondly in regards to the radiator fan. I have started stripping off all the ancillary engine parts and the fan on the car is yellow but the pulley it attaches to is black. I notice on a number of peoples resto pictures that this seems to be painted yellow also. So the second question is, should the pulley be yellow or black in colour?

Thirdly in regards to the dynamo. Should the body casing and/or the coil mounting bracket thats bolted to it be in black or green in colour?

Car in question just in case it helps is a Morris '63 SDL

Thanks in advance :)

The correct colour for most MK1 Mini engines is BS Middle Bronze Green, a close enough match is available in aerosols from Minispares amongst others, I get my own mixed.

Some are, some aren't. Most pressed steel type water pump pulleys are painted yellow, but not all, sopme like yours are simply black in colour.

The dynamo & wrap round bracket should be green, the bracket that wraps around the coil & coil itself are self coloured.
Hope this helps.

basically, if it was bolted to the engine before the engine was painted it will be green, so exhaust manifold & all the nuts and bolts are green

Ive been cleaning and painting up my engine tonight, and the minispares green is a VERY close match!

I tried a patch on the back of the engine where the paint was immaculate, and I couldn't tell where the painted patch was. It also seems to be very hard wearing too. ;)

I used engine green aerosol from somerfords. It went on really well. 1 and a half tins did the lot and it still looks fantastic 15 years on. As for the fan I used a triumph colour similar to inca yellow. It was used on Dolomites and Spitfires. Hope this helps. Tim.
