I'm planning to get to this event on October 1st as it was so good last year. HRDC have a pre '66 45 minute saloon race and there's lots of good stuff on the race card and on display.

They still have room for a group display if anyone's intersted?

Great photographs as ever.

Does anyone know why the Hepworth car has the pre-United Kingdom Union Jack on it please? (no red diagonal cross)

If anyone wants to go and park their Minis/variants etc together I can sort a spot out but we need to move pretty quick. It's as good a historic race event as any I've been to outside of Goodwood, but more laid back with a nice grass roots atmosphere.

I'd be up for a Mk1 Performance get together, but I would be in my '97 Cooper.

The car had the original British Union flag in period

I was parked next to that in the collecting area last year, when it revved up it nearly blew the bleedin doors off me Unipower.

Strictly speaking the flag on the car in period is the Cross of Saint George, which the English adopted from the Genovese in 1188 or 1190 depending on which history books you read. Principally it was for identification during the crusades and for the protection of the Duke of Genoa for English trade ships entering the Mediterranean Sea, for which a royalty was paid.

The union flag without the red diagonal (Cross of St. Patrick) was created in 1606 as a maritime flag and officially adopted as a national flag in 1707 when the kingdoms of Scotland and England were officially united and thence used until 1801 when the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was created. It is still used but is titled as the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Sorry, I did history at school....

I'll get me coat.....

I did that as well. I think my school had the 'posh' version, it was called Engineering Workshop Theory and Practice.
I skimmed the brake drums of my first Mini in that class along with machining a whole bunch of tools and adaptors to take it to pieces and put it back together...

Anyone seen an entry list?

I'll be there near the bar ( :D ) in the paddock with my Unipower GT together with chassis number one owned by Tim Carpenter to celebrate 50 years of the cars, will be getting a spin around the circuit (not literally hopefully!) at lunchtime. See you there Stu?

Given the mid morning forecast, the bar sounds like a plan :o

Due to me deciding on entering the Northumberland Borders, (click here to see what I have got viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14323&start=10 ) I won't be down as I need to do more prep on the car.

Have a good day.

PS My Fitz arrived from Amazon, got a bit of a surprise when I found it had been signed on the title page. Perhaps this will be like Wizzos book where the unsigned ones will be rarer than the signed ones ;)
