Mini Gearbox 22G68

Hi - I have a Mk1 gearbox with SME 22G68 279790 on it.

Does anyone know if this is a 850 or 997 box? Or know how I can tell?

Also, will it fit a Mk1 1275 S engine?

The easiest way to tell is by looking at the diff case. The 850 one looks like this;

The cooper one looks like this:

This is due to the different type of gearlevers uswed on the different models.

You "CAN" fit a 1275 engine on an 850 gearbox, but it's a lot of work, & involves a lot of grinding. It isn't really to be recommended.
