Monte Carlo Historique 2017 Scotland Start

Just testing the (very early) waters here.
Would any of the Northern Ireland / Republic of Ireland members on here be interested in going to Scotland in the New Year to go to the Scotland start of the 2017 Monte Carlo Historique and then take part in the Monte Scotland Paisley to Dumfries Heritage Run?

I went last year (flew over) and it was a very good event (despite the constant rain) with a few events in one. I've been thinking about taking the Mini for next year and doing the Heritage Run which actually runs behind the Monte cars and uses the same start ramp etc.

I might have a couple of mates who might be interested in going as well. Be good to have a bit of an Irish jaunt over the shough. Maybe could meet up with some of the mainland members as well.

Like I say only an idea at the minute.

I think it's a tulip navigation touring event. No regularity timing as far as I know.

Info on last year's event -http://monte.scot/monte-heritage-runs.html

The regulations and entry forms for the Heritage event are now on line on the Monte Scot website - http://monte.scot/monte-heritage-runs.html

I have mine completed and once I have my navigator's autograph on the form it'll be on its way to Scotland.

Looking forward to this.

Is there anyone else on here who will be in Glasgow to spectate or to enter the Historique, Classique or Heritage events?

I have traveled up a couple of times to see the Glasgow start, the last time being 2014 when Paddy Hopkirk and Rosemary Smith helped with proceedings. It is a good way to spend a cold January afternoon/evening as the atmosphere in Paisley is great. It is just a shame that more of the Monte entries don't make the trip north to start as per the first year when they started in Glasgow.

Here's my video from 2014

It is a shame for sure, but last year there was a pretty decent turn out of Monte proper entries, and then there was the John O'Groats to Monte Carlo Classique that had a good entry list as well. The atmosphere is fantastic for sure, and like you say a good way to spend a cold January evening. It rained pretty much constantly last year and was really cold, so by the time I got back to my hotel my feet were like blocks of ice (although being from N Ireland you'd think I'd have been used to it lol).

Great video as well - I showed it to my mate to convince him to navigate for me. After he saw your video he was on board in no time.

Just had confirmation of my entry for the Paisley to Dumfries Heritage Event. Should be a fun event. Was told to allow around 3 hours for the event after leaving the start ramp. Last year I think the first Heritage Event car left the ramp around 7.30 or so, so it'll be a fairly late finish getting into Dumfries. Looking forward to it.

Must get a few spots wired in and get a heater refitted!!

Hi Ian, much as I'm not taking over a classic Mini, I will be over to see the nice cars taking part, as you know my wife is from Scotland and we visit her family every January :D :D

Hope the weather is good for this event.

Alan

I'm quite interested in this, I do a few follow the tulip tours (and watch for the inevitable mistake) with Wigton Motor Club so this sounds fun, no spots on the Britax mini though

That's great Alan, be great to have a friendly face over there to cheer us over the ramp ;)

Will you be flying over or taking your daily drive? As soon as we have the ferry booked I'll let you know what sailing we are taking. Maybe we'll be on the same boat and can have a chinwag over a coffee on the way over.
We'll be going over on evening of Tuesday 24th and back evening of Thursday 26th all being well. I'm just waiting to hear back from MG Car Club membership to see if they still do ferry discounts for members. Failing that I'll just use the 10% discount that the AA offers for members. I do like a good discount where possible off anything I buy.

Paisley to Dumfries, as Dumfries is only around an hour from home.

Same one as myself. Although I do have a 2 hour drive back to the 2 1/2 hour ferry crossing but that'll be left until the next day.

where you sailing back from? assuming you're overnighting in Dumfries? I could maybe suggest a nice route, depending on where and when the ferry is as i've traversed a hell a lot of the roads in sw scotland with work.

Overnighting at the Cairndale in Dumfries and then back up to Cairnryan for the ferry to Belfast. We've not booked the ferry yet but will be the 1930 or 2300 crossings giving us all day Thursday for the trip back.
An alternate route back would be great. The A75 isn't the most interesting road in the world.

You could use a tank of fuel in Dumfries and Galloway no bother, plenty of roads. I'll try and remember where I've been, it's a bit early!

I remember someone saying that Old Military Road is worth a drive
