Is that a T53 Cooper Climax on the left, without the rear cover on, and what looks like John Cooper? Just a guess, but I could be completely wrong though.
Recent pic of one,

Definetly John Cooper, Patti and Bruce Mc Laren.

It's strange looking at period pictures like this, with the Revival they now almost look like a modern picture again!

A friend has identified the car and possibly the mechanic next to John Cooper. I will post this soon. But another friend made the good suggestion that perhaps the lady in yellow is Christobel Carlisle?
Any thoughts anyone?

The lady in yellow is in my opinion not Cristabel Carlisle.

Blimey! The car in maroon on the left is an extremely rare Ogle One Point Five.

A friend of mine David McKinney tells me the car is the Indy Cooper-Climax - you can tell by the Dunlop knock off wheels. This is a T54. Because Indy is in May and the car didn't come back from the States the photo must be before May. He thinks the bearded mechnic with the bald spot is Owen Maddock. Confirms its Patti next to Bruce.
He thinks it might be Christabel Carlisle but will check that - knowing him he will ask her!
Does look a bit like her?

I'm with Mark , pretty sure it's not Christabel. Here's another pic from the set......
Amazing to think McLaren travelled half way round the world to try and get a competative drive at the age of 20, was only 23 in that photo ,had already won a grand prix and by the time he was 33 had lost his life at the same circuit. Talk about 'live fast die young' !
Here's Patty with the Cooper he raced at the Australian Grand Prix in '62. the only time he raced a Mini as far as I know.....wonder if that's the mother-in-law ?!

McLaren raced this Cooper in the 62/63 summer season here in NZ. There is some thinking here this had a protoype 1071S engine - it was listed as 1098. Car still exists - its almond green
He raced a 997 the year before - but it was the later car which wowed the crowds as it battled with the Jags.

Ahhhhh...that would explain this photo in 'Pluto's' book.......
I hadn't realised it was NZ ! Funnily enough he was wowing crowds against Jags etc over there and racing Jags over here. Great photo Graeme.
