HSCC Cadwell This Weekend (18-19 June)

Post by surfblue63 »

There's a round of the HSCC at Cadwell this weekend. Two races for the tin tops, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Weather looks like it will be dry.

Yes very low. A few years ago they had so many touring car entries they split the field into two, with the smaller classes having their own race. Is it that there are too many events these days chasing a shrinking entry?

Any ways, I'm hoping to see a bit of a ding dong between the Minis of Harber and Godfrey and the Imp of Benoy. If the forecast is wrong and we get a bit of rain, then they can spoil the efforts of the Detroit and Dagenham boys.

Really big cars do not go well at Cadwell, hence the low entry numbers. Only one Mustang?

one of the best races I ever saw at Cadwell was a wet race with the Napier Bentley been hassled by a load of Austin sevens

his size and power was of no use what so ever!

Starting off the line in third and then stalling it was not the best idea . Glad he did it and not me . Lotus in front of me lit his tyres up so much that it died when he put it in second and I nearly went up his arse.

Better than John Whitmore who started in reverse once

Edited highlights from Tims view of both races. Just watch out for the speedy banana.

Footage from Imp at the back shows Rogers epic fail. Things then get dull till 17.30 or so when cars start to go by. The speed difference between this Imp and Simon Benoy has to be seen , and its nice to see John Marsden in his red car getting in the groove towards the end of the second race .

The quick Imps are now up to 1150 where they have to carry more weight but they are more than a match for us in a straight line in some cases . Not quite sure why this one has a Thomas the Tank Engine tape on the go

I was wondering how/why the Imps are now quicker than us, although I note none of these are (proper?) Appendix K cars.

Guess it was always so . They can benefit from the freedom of the rules in HSCC classes , but they now have the grunt in a straight line . Think it's probably as they are using proper modern hi spec stuff in the engines (Shrigley Engineering) rather than old stuff dating back 40 years and they have gone up from 998 to 1150. I think an Appendix K Imp would not be too impressive. Still it gets them out to keep up traditional rivalries.

As quick as a 1600 Anglia in a straight line too:

Christ

could he sit any further away from the wheel, just goes to show what rear wheel drive does.

if you had so little 'grip' and such straight arms in a mini it would just spit you off the track!

Interesting ti view the lap 1 tap from inside the Anglia. Was it a bit of opposite lock due the hopping the curb an knocking down the markers posts, or an attempt to shut the door?
