I have just got back from picking the Hornet up from Southam after it's extended visit to get it set up after its enforced engine rebuild after Blyton.

After 3 dyno sessions & a great deal of effort from the great team at Southam Mini & Metro Centre, it is now sorted.

I have chucked the Weber that was on the short manifold & replaced it with twin H4's (Thanks to Mark @ Burlen Fuel Systems) & eventually after a great deal of ignition timing issues replaced the Aldon red spot with a Swiftune CSI dizzy with the correct advance curve and it now runs flawlessly.

For the first time ever I have also managed to break the 100bhp / litre barrier with readings of 114 at the wheels @ 7,000rpm this equates to somewhere over 130 at the flywheel!!

That sounds like a pokey little beast. Great result.

That's 39bhp at the wheels more than Steve Murphy has, that's got to be worth at least 5 secs up Harewood on Saturday.

Fook me that'll fly now, glad you got it sorted.

Its a 1293, really built to go circuit racing again.

It has been expensive to build, but I thought for once in my life I'll build an engine to see how good it can be, not scratting around for old bits & bobs to make do.

1300 Pre A+ Block, bored to 1293, Steel centre main Cap, line bored & sized by Simon @ Southam.

CR is 11.5 : 1

We discovered that the set up is VERY SENSITIVE to ignition advance curve. The reason I destroyed a set of pistons in 40 laps at Blyton was that the curve on the Aldon red spot gave WAY too much advance around 4,500 - 5,500. Once we fitted the correct Swiftune Dizzy this problem disappeared instantly.

Fuel distribution between cylinders was always poor when using the Weber on the very short manifold, once this was replaced by the SU's these issues instantly vanished.

I would also like to say that the prices published on the web sites above are not necessarily the prices I paid for stuff. I am very grateful to everyone who helped me in this project. I could not have done it without you!

The dog box should be good what FD ratio did you use?

The engine spec is great, but it probably surpasses my ability by some considerable distance

3.9 FD, a good allrounder.

seriously, its been a mega effort to get the hornet to this stage, and a fair few sleepless nights from both me and mark, so it will good to see mark actually getting to enjoy the fruits of his bank account!
