Speedo with trip counter genuine or not?

I've had this speedo a long time, it's been restored (poorly) it has a resetable trip with a remote cable to operate. I've always wanted to know if this is a Smiths made part of something home brew.
Any information would be great.

It shouts Caerbont to me. I have 3 original Smiths trip speedos if you want to see the real thing, a silver 90, a Cooper 100 and a Cooper S 120. These are part of my collection and not for sale.

Hi Nick,
I think that the silver 90 was equipped on the early Austin works minis.
Cooper S 120 have aluminum black ring.
Could you post front/back pictures of these speedo.

The finish on the back of the gauge is not what i would expect for a factory unit, the reset cable looks well used, and the fuel gauge is the later type. However, what makes you say it was poorly restored?

Like you say it's the finishes really. I will try and get a closer picture of the numbers which aren't very crisp.
It's certainly be pulled apart but I'm just trying to see if the trip is standard or not. I guess I should open it up for more clues.
The plan is to keep it but restore it to a higher standard and with a black face again.
