Not quite historic motorsport, BUT!!

Throw this in the electronic rubbish bin if it's too far off topic,
I'm rebuilding an old 80's kitcar, (Hi Wil) "A" series powered and thought it would be fun to do a bit of circuit racing next year, looking around the various clubs it seems that no one runs a class that caters for small capacity car engined kits and specials. 750MC's old kit car series that had upto 1300/1400cc class breaks has been replaced by "Sports Specials" with an open class with a power /weight ratio of 340bhp/ton these older cars, ( GTM, Mini Marcos, Davrian, Ginetta G15, and a myriad of 70's 80's "A" series, Imp, small ford or modern equivalent engined ( No bike engined cars) kit cars are probably not going to be anywhere near competitive in the current open class, even if I could drive !! Pre 1966 is obviously catered for, as they are real "Historics"
However I have been talking to Hugo Holder @ CSCC and he has expressed an interest in running a class for such cars within a current series to judge the popularity of such a class, if there are sufficient entries in the tasters, then the possibility of a separate series for the class may be offered.
Could be a way of getting decent track time for these "post classics"
I'm just testing the water and any feedback will be most welcome ( oh and the usual forum P__s take

I'd suggest the 24hr for lemons is ideal, if a bit far to go, as it's based in the USA.
Funnily enough though, my pal was suggesting there should be a race series for impoverished Historics fans using Reliant Scimitars as they are the only classic you seem to be able to drag out a hedge for reasonable money and has a surprisingly good survival rate.
Not sure the idea will take off though!

the HRDC are keen to see 60's stuff racing in the a series challenge, but unfortunately they are not interested in letting the 1970s stuff race plus if they did it would be on cr65 control tyres with 1293's so it would sort of remove the fun of building something in the first place

I don't think your G15 qualifies for historic racing, your father was probably running in modsport we were running G15 in the 750 mc in the 80's with Kleber and early Yokohama road tyres (and won the series) as was every one else in that class, this is the period I am hoping to re-create.

You're correct, the G15 has never quite made it into the full Historics because of it's kit car origin, despite some owners getting quite optimistic at times. Although my FIA Mini runs well on CR65s, it's not a million miles away from what it must've been like in pre-66. However, I'm not sure the tighter chassis of the G15 would be much fun at all on them......except in the rain as you say, yes!

I think the main reason G15's are not in Historics is that they were built way out of their (HRDC) cut off date of 1966, which is why I feel that a series for kit and specialist low volume 70's/80's cars under 1400cc, on road going (MSA lists) tyres is needed. under 750 mc, all those I mentioned previously raced on road going tyres in their respective series, ie. Kit Cars and Roadgoing sportscars.
I'm only trying to gauge interest rather than defend the whys and wherefores, it's interesting that the reason for the original post was about cars that can't race in Historics, are the very cars that seem to be talked about, they, have some to race the cars I am interested in are those that were racing in the 70'/80's no longer have any real representation.
