Would somebody steer me in the right direction. I have a handful of clutch housings (woks) and wondered if anybody on here knows which ones are right for a 1275 S and which for a 998 Mk1 and Mk2 Cooper.
The ones I have to hand are as follows:
22G271
22A524
Any advise appreciated as Somerford etc doesn't appear to list them. Thanks a lot. Mark

My '64 S has a 22A 109 which is listed in AKD 3509 with an alternative at 22A114. I also have a 22G 271 which came with a later flywheel housing with the crankcase breather boss on, this would be late sixties I guess?

The 970 used 22G207...this was also used on the 1071.
Here are some pictures to help illustrate the different housings.
Keep in mind...the MK housing is easily identified. It will have the blind air vent on the top.
Blind...not drilled for a breather.
The 998 according to the AKD has three different numbers.
8G729, 22A581...these were sub'd to 8G737.
The early 1275 used 22G288 and 8G737 as an alternative.
997 used the 22A107
First picture shows the difference in the early 1071/997 and the later MK1 1275.
Pic shows shows the P/N of the early housing
Pic 001 shows the P/N of the MK1 1275 housing
Keep in mind the P/N stamped in the housing is usually off by 1 or more compared with the AKD parts book.
Regarding the 'China mans hat'...one thing you need to watch for is the clutch operating lever...there is a difference in the bottom offset part that connects into the sliding shaft. This has been covered on the forum some time ago.

If it is off an S from around mid 1963 to June 1964-ish it will be stamped on the thick rib with the BMC internal factory engine code.

Simon, just beat me to it.
Dermott, the left flywheel housing in your first pic looks like it's an 850 one due to the lack of the code on the rib.
Here is an example of a 1071 housing:

Before you all rush out to your garage with your heavy hammer and newly purchased set of stamps you should know that there is more than one code for the 1071

Toby, that may well be an 850 housing...I just grabbed one of the early housings off the shelf to illustrate the outward differences .
As Simon stated...there are a number of different housing for the 1071s.

I thought I would mention it as not everybody is aware of those numbers being stamped into the ridge. The same goes for the AEG stamping which some of them have on the front.

The number stamped on the ridge has to do with the final drive ratio.............................

Well, the 1P6062 is a standard box, 3.76 fd ratio
My 1071 S has 1P1099 (if I remember right) and has C/R helical gears and 3.76 fd ratio
