Is there anyway that a 12G202 head can be distinctly identified as coming from a 997 Cooper as opposed to a 1098 engine? I have a couple of them here:
Some have the flat manifold face and some have the cutouts (example photo)

Some have dual valve springs and circlips on the cotters, others don't (although easily swapped)
Some have temperate sender threads under the thermostat and some don't.
They all seem to have different casting marks too...

The head with the flat manifold surface is a late head, the other one would be correct casting for a 997.
Cooper heads had larger valves and duel valve springs. Std 1100 heads do not.
Although not correct for a 997, I would use a 295 or 206 if I was building one to go.

Or you could just use the 12A185 head from a 997 !
