Aussie doors on SA Cooper S

I got my South African Cooper S car's original "Aussie" doors from the previous owner today. I noticed to my surprise that the chrome strips were in two parts for each door. One part for the back half and one part for the front half of the window frame. And then the front half stops about 10 cm from the front corner. Does anyone know whether these strips are supposed to be like this? I've only ever seen them in one piece for the whole (top and sides) of the frame.SA

Abri,

I have two S.A. cars and both have these aussi doors.
Most of what you mentioned sounds quite normal.
If you look at the door frames they are different from the G.B. mk1 ones.
You actually clip or press the chrome strips on the door,
there are no rivets or anything like this to hold them.
The missing last ten centimeters on the front worries me a bit.
The chrome strips should run all the way down over the chrome
triangle at the very front of the door.
I´ll try to get a good photo from this during the week.

The door mouldings were in two pieces with a clip that covers the join about the middle of the top. They should run all the way round from the lower front corner to the lower rear corner though. I think they were stainless steel rather than chromed, they snap very tightly on to the doors and are very difficult to remove without damaging them.

Your best bet for replacement ones would be The Mini King in Narellan NSW.
