Tickford or W&P Metro?

"When the Metro was launched as the Mini for the Eighties, it was almost inevitable that it would come in for similar treatment from Wood & Pickett…"

These photos of a Metro that once belonged to singer Lynsey DePaul has been described as a Tickford Turbo with an Auto box....and was posted on 'The Mini Forum' (TMF). The car was broken up 15 years ago due to rust.....but interior seems more upmarket than other Tickford Metros featured in links below, bodykit is different and the dash arranhement has a distinct hint of Wood & Pickett Mini dash styling about it....so was this actually a Wood & Pickett Metro?
Note also the varnished wood roof bars!!

Quote from TMF post:-
"I was going through a box of old photos and found a couple of pics of a Tickford Metro that my friend once had so I thought you guys would like a look. He bought it for next to no money, but it was seriously rotten underneath so he broke it. It wasn't worth anything back then (about 15 years ago). It once belonged to 70s singer Lynsey DePaul and was supposedly a Turbo with an Auto box from Tickford - however by the time he got his hands on it, it was normally aspirated - presumably because Tickford could never get it to work properly as this was made prior to the factory Turbo being released and the fact it was an Auto...
The roof had very strange roof bars on which looked like they were made from a heavily varnished hard wood (only just visible in the pic) and it had a horrid body kit on it. From what I remember he kept everything from the interior (still waiting for him to put it in a Mini), but sold the body kit. The wheels were stolen from his boss's work unit. Don't know if he kept anything from the engine bay or not, but the car was beyond saving. There was daylight visible in several places in the floor and the heelboard was non-existent. Shame really with hindsight, but at the time it was not financially viable and nobody wanted to buy it.
The spec was massive for a 1981 small hatchback - electric heated seats, thick Wilton carpet and mats, everything trimmed in leather and there were numerous little additions here and there which stood over and above the standard Metro such as the fully trimmed steering column, custom dashboard, electric sunroof, massive (old) speakers in the doors, electric windows and wood cappings everywhere. It was quite an odd thing really.

I think these ebay brochures, roof bars and the bodykit shape and style confirms it was actually a W&P......

Ah simpler times, the word video hadn't even been invented then, nor the phrase 'silicone implant', and she was 70's crumpet alright! You can't even say that now, but you can say F**K on telly as much as you want.

they say the 70's were tasteless, i dont know some of the conversions offered in the 80's were much worse........imo

Interesting love seeing pictures and reading about them they but make the old eyeballs hurt a bit, it all started to wrong with the introduction of nudge bars lol

The Tickford was actually quite significant as regards our little box , as the tyres were developed for it specially (I seem to remember that the F in the P7F meant it was a special build)

They were 175/50x13 which meant that they would fit our little box and eventually found their way onto German spec cars yonks before we got them

I am constantly reminded of them as I have a single NOS one.....

One of only 3 known Metro made with the Margrave dash 8-)

Wood & Pickett abandoned the Margrave dash, after people had critisized them for sticking with a old fashioned design.

With the boost gauge in the dash would this have originally been a turbo, if it was would it have been a factory turbo, or a conversion?, I knew someone along time ago who had a Tickford Capri, I'm sure the turbos on that were done by Janspeed

One of them went to France.
These pictures were taken at Garage Boursault in Paris in May 1983.

The Tickford Capri had a KKK turbocharger, Janspeed I think had their own turbo Capri, as well as Turbo Tecnics. ;) I'm not a Capri nut just worked a Tickfords in the 90's. I never saw any of the Metros whilst I was there but plenty of other oddball stuff. Was a great place too work tho.
