Mg Metro Head

Just purchased a MG Metro Engine, the plan is to rebuild a decent 1293 stage two or something similar.

Would I be wasting my money against performance gained if I exchanged the head for a Mini Sport stage 3 head, or could I refurbish the head myself?

Unsure on the mileage of the engine, took the head off last night and there is no wear in the cylinder bores.

All advice/recommendations most welcome

I'd be keeping the metro head and exchanging a small valve 12g940

If your MG Metro head is in decent condition I would just refurbish this. If it has the 35.6mm inlet valves then it's good for a fast road car.

If the bores are good then check the pistons for scuffing or any damage. And the ring lands for any signs of wear. If the pistons are in good condition then just get a set of replacement rings and the block rehoned, it sounds like you may get away without needing a rebore.

And the MG Metro cam is also good choice for a fast road car. For a bit more mid range and top end power replace the sintered A+ rockers with 1.3 ratio rockers, or even possible a set of Keith Calver's 1.4 ratio rockers.
