Mini Cooper discs

I am currently restoring a mk2 cooper still on its 7 inch discs, I am hopefully going to retain these as found them good enough for the car, question I have is the wheel bearings, the cooper has drum brake cv joints and plain roller bearings, I have some new timken taper roller bearings and am pretty sure I have read somewhere that they can be used in drum brake hubs so hopefully may fit in my application. Has anyone tried this with any success, I know I can fit the rear timken bearings I have so was hoping I could upgrade fronts at same time, still a while off doing though as body only just started but getting parts collected together ready.

Thanks

I think from the factory, the Cooper did have the Ball Bearings fitted.

Dimensionally, as an assembly, the Tapered Rollers and the Ball type Bearing assemblies are the same and interchangable.

I have nearly always fitted the Tappered rollers, regardless of what was found in them. I think there days the Ball Rollers are in fact dearer than the Tappereds.

A little off topic but still 7 inch brakes. I stumbled over a nice set of 998 calipers recently. I just happen to have new SS pistons for a set. I also have a Moke with twin leading shoe brakes. I'm thinking about turning down a set of 7.5 disc and either thin them down or machine spacers for the calipers and use 7 inch disc with S drive flanges. Could thin some used S disc and machine a little off new pads. I have new 7 inch disc not sure how well fixed I am for 7 inch drive flanges. Steve (CTR)
