I just purchased a Mk 2 850 SDL as a project. While in decent nick, both the door and rear side window seals are in poor condition + the door seals do not fit well either. Their profile looks wrong and I think they're aftermarket bits intended for a roll-up window car.

Who offers the best fitting replacements currently in terms of allowing the doors to close correctly as well as being fairly weather tight. (Hope to be proven wrong but assume that getting both qualities from non OEM seals isn't that likely?)

Phoenix Trim supplies seals that work quite well.

This is a real minefield!

You will find various people swear by different makes of seal, particularly when it comes to rear 1/4 seals.

For my 2 pennorth. I like the "soft" minispares door seals & despite having tried many alternatives, still tend to stick with original 1/4 light seal;s because I have not found a modern replacement that fits correctly.

Have to disagree about Phoenix Trim, all the seals I bought were rubbish, wouldn't fit properly or allow the windows, doors, boot and glass to close etc. bought some from Somerford and all was fine.

I'd agree on the Minispares door seals, but the rear quarter seals from them are also a good fit, I've used them on my car with no problems and a mate who's just restored the Mk2 Cooper I sold to him has used them too without any trouble.

The only ones I've found from Phoenix that don't fit nice are the boot lid rubber . All the others I've had no problem with . To be honest when I'm restoring my minis I always fit the rubbers first as a matter of course of preparation ... Ken

I agree with swifty, the best bet is to fit the seals to the holes during the resto, to ensure they fit correctly when the resto is complete.

Mark, you mentioned the "soft" Minispares door seals - do you mean their XGA9934? Also, you mentioned sticking with "original 1/2 light seal" - did you mean "1/4" window there?

Probably 1 source, but I don't know for sure.

Not sure on part number, but I believe these are the only ones they do now. The old ones were quite hard, where as these are much softer & more compliant.

Yup, typo I usually make do with the original 1/4 light seals as I can never get the new ones to fit correctly.
