Would it be possible if someone could post a couple pics of exact position and means of mounting oil cooler to a Cooper S?
Thanks

I wouldn't mind seeing this either.....after nearly 6 years of historic racing, I've never been able to fit mine satisfactorily, with or without a slimline starter motor and small race alternator.

If you don't mind waiting for me to find the original front panel (remains of) off my S, I can measure where the mounting bracket(s) holes should be drilled.

Here is a picture with measurements...this is from my very original 69 MK11 S.
This car is 'original'...never been touched The car has been in my barn since 91.
I know the car as it was sold here by the family dealership...was never in an accident etc. ...the panels are all original. The oil cooler was replaced at some point...hence the upper tabs are still on there. As you can see...the cooler does sit out past the lip...the grille has to be formed (bent slightly) to make sure it doesn't rub on the cooler. This gives the effect of slight bowing in the middle....
You will require a pair of the brackets that attach to the lower lip of the front skirt panel.
Hope this helps.

This is groundbreaking.....for me!
So the brackets fit to the
lower lip of the front skirt panel???????
I persevered for an entire winter trying to get the oil cooler to fit in this position whilst all the time attempting to fit the brackets to the front edge of the subframe!
The only query I have is, will it be the same for a Mk1 as your Mk2?

MK1 & 2 should be the same. I usually find it useful to space the front grille off from the front panel about 1/2" as regardless of what the instructions say it is a VERY, VERY tight squeeze to get everything in.

Oz cars had the bottom of the bracket spotwelded to the bottom of the valance and had spacers to move the grille outwards....
I'm not sure if the top was spotted also or just used the front cooler mounting bolt to hold the bracket in place as well.
If "originality" is not a pressing concern you don't need the "L" shaped bracket.... or the vertical/angled slam panel brace.
Cheers, Ian

Good stuff. Thanks.
My main concern is/was mounting the cooler a) centrally exposing the total cooling area and b) so it would not foul the alternator/dizzy cap/starter motor/grille under racing conditions. At present it is mounted vertically, looks shoite and has a proportion of it not exposed to the incoming draught!

Aussie Cooper Ss did not have the "L-shaped" bracket spot-welded to the bottom of the valance. My 8/70 S has a machine screw/nut attachment as per the parts photos, where the bracket can swing around until attached to the cooler and upper lip by the 4 self-tappers.
