Araluen Blue
This one is for our Australian members. I am trying to get the mix formula for Araluen Blue ( aralien ?) a BMC colour used from 1960 to 1962, it is a long shot I know (even though the Standox and Ducol/Duco numbers are available nobody in the UK can help unless the have a formula) Standox number 12154, Dulon/Duco number 09599. Paul Costin had a car this colour with a white nose stripe. Hope someone can help. David

Re: Araluen Blue
That old formula won't work with today's paints and tinters, you need a formula that has been converted to a current system.
I recently had some "Silver Birch Metallic" mixed up. The local automotive paint supplier had all the formulas for the BMC/Leyland Australia colours in their book and the guy said they could mix them all, unfortunately I didn't find out which system they were for, but they are available - somewhere.
Incidentally their Aussie Silver Birch Metallic was a perfect match for the original trim on my Moke, but their "Old English White" which was not an Australian colour wasn't much good at all.

Re: Araluen Blue
Thanks chaps, I am beginning to think the only way is to Photo Spectrometer the actual colour be it a paint swatch or car part, if any one has a swatch sample they would be willing to send me in the post of have a car that could be spectrometered and the readings sent to me that would be great! I would of course pay any costs involved
Many thanks David

Re: Araluen Blue
I looked through my colour charts, but unfortunately no araluen blue. Mine only cover about 1973-80.

Re: Araluen Blue
My charts start fro 64, sorry.
When searching, along with the name of the colour the year is equally important as they seemed to have recycled names in later years for different colours. This was bought up on the UK Moke Forum a little while ago.

Re: Araluen Blue
Going by the pic of the Moggy Ute Rich has found the closest colour I can find in my Berger BMC colours swatches is Honolulu Blue. BU 42.
The next closest colour is Bermuda Blue BU 40, but is visibly darker.
Edit. Forgot to add that the swatches are 1968 issue, but seems to include all the early BMC Mini colours.

Re: Araluen Blue
I have a mixing formula for it in "permachrome"
comulative amounts are
AG201-1059.2
AG006-1097.8
AG260-1164.6
AG220-1175.9
unfortunately I don't have this mixing scheme , It doesn't look a difficult colour to mix from a sample , mainly white ,I once did a sunbeam a similar shade "powder blue" .it looks like its the wrong colour when you paint it almost white ,then the blue comes in when it dries

Re: Araluen Blue
probably best to get it formulated in a base coat ,easier to blend and will buff up better

Re: Araluen Blue
Here's one I tracked down through the Ausmini forum. It must be local to me. When I was a kid my Mum had one almost identical, which was the start of this whole sorry story...
