Considering replacing the boot lid on my 1071 restoration project.
The original is rust free but has a few dents etc...would require quite a few hours of bodywork.
So, M Machine boot lids (250.00 pounds)...anyone used these...also, Somerford (263 pounds) has them...
Are the someford lids sourced from M Machine???
Wondering how these fit as I am not too impressed with other replacement panels.

I think that your always better with an original one, the heritage ones are a bit rough

The Heritage ones have the wrong profile above the number plate flap. They are the same profile as the Mk3 onwards bootlid.

They look alright until you know the difference........ ;

Just reminded me of Jason, (the guy who painted my car) comments when he flatted the bootlid. Bloody hell did you used to park this down the driving range...

Dermott , I would repair the original boot lid you have ! The fit and shape of the heritage stuff ......

Any pictures of the "Damage" ??

I can only say that I bought a new Heritage one for my restoration and it was simply a modified Mk3 lid. It never looked right despite my best efforts and it never fitted right either......As Andrew says, once you know the differences, you can spot 'em a mile off!

I would have prefered an original if I could have found one at the time. If you have the original, you'll be better off repairing that.

Had a look at a MK 3 lid...in all my years I had no idea that there is a different curve on the top area!!!!!! Much flatter than the MK 1/2 lids...well spotted Andrew.
Thanks for the input...here is a picture of the 1071 lid I was thinking of replacing....that won't happen now.
I had to make a repair inside the lid as there was some damage there from a rear end shunt.
Looks pretty good so far...need to do a little more aligning....think it will be as good as new when I get done.

Hello All,
I am attempting to understand the differences between the original Mk1 Boot Lid and the Heritage
replacement panels.

I replaced my original Mk1 1966 Boot which had a few imperfections with a replacement panel (28G110) which I assume is a Heritage panel from Mini Spares. I thought it looked very good until I read the posts here on the forum. What exactly am I missing ? I'm thinking of going back to my original boot lid.

In addition, while I had the Mini at a body shop for other work, the "panel expert" without my prompting, mentioned that he thought the boot did not look quite right ! In particular he pointed to the curve of the boot just next to he tail lights (see photo).

I'm looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

The pressing above the hinged number plate plinth is straight on a Mk1/2 bootlid, following the profile of the plinth.

You'll see that the Heritage and Mk3 onwards boot lid skins have a curve.

I knew none of that! Glad I have my original boot lids in decent condition!

Perhaps it's also worth adding the use of the Mk3 rear on the Heritage panel throws up another anomaly as they only take the Mk3 type catch, not the original Mk1 type (14A5696). Ultimately as a replacement panel they fit the hole fine and are OK if you can't get anything else but given the current market are not really up to snuff for the money IMO.
