1964 mini front panel

Post by minimissions »

hi all might be a silly question but I have a June 64 Austin 850 that is one day going to get started.... Am I right in thinking that it would have the full skirt front panel?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Yes, your car (like mine) should have the full skirt at the bottom of the front panel.

I believe the full skirt front panel was changed to the "cut out" type when twin leading shoe front brakes were introduced during September 1964.

I stand corrected. Parnell says the change to the front panel happened between July and August 1964.

Minimissions, several of the storage spots I had online were hacked a couple of years ago so I don't have a lot of online pictures of my car to refer you to. The link below is to my car shortly after I rolled it out of the garage following paint. It is missing bits of trim, windshield wipers and such. However, you can see the full skirt below the front bumper. This car was built in July 1964.

I was going to say that my Traveller was registered in September '64 and it had the cut outs (and was still the original panel when I got the car). I reckon it must've been built in July / August?

Yeh sounds like your traveller was very close to the change of panels...

The changeover was a tad erratic (like many changes on the MK1)....my June 1070 has full skirt and my August 970 has cutaways.
Sept. would most likely have the cutaway front.
