Seat Belts

Post by Spitz »

My new to me 62 Traveller does not have seat belts. It does have the high up mounting point with a bolt in place on both sides of the car.
Can I assume that they were an option for the NA market that early?
I see no fittings at the bottom ( although I've not pulled back the carpet )

Thanks

The mountings were fitted by then (the lower one will be behind the carpet) but belts didn't become a compulsory fitting in the UK until 1965 I think?

The 2nd mounting point should be on the inner sill just in front of the rear bin.

You can just about see it in this pic.

As Richard says, belts were a dealership or aftermarket option in the early 60's.

Thanks for the replies…….but would the factory put the bolt in place (upper)
I'll have a look for the bottom mount later today
I've not been able to find out if belts needed to be fitted here in CA at that time.

I think they left the factory with a plastic grommet in the upper mounting hole if memory serves me? Not a bolt anyway.

The rule was that by 1965 if your car had been registered in that year you had until December to put belts in and compulsory thereafter.
