DVLA Mini Statistics - Freedom of Information Requests?

Post by mab01uk »

As many on here will know it was recently published in Mini Magazine that 63,592 Classic Minis (out of 1,581,887 sold in UK) were still registered in UK on October 1st 2010
of which:
32,847 were taxed,
30,745 on SORN
Also:
327 Riley Elf taxed and 225 with a SORN.
275 Wolseley Hornets taxed and 166 with a SORN.

Since around March 2010 it seems (in theory) anyone can now request certain vehicle information from DVLA under a 'Freedom of Information' request.
Go to:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/
and type in DVLA for various examples.

Some classic vehicle info request examples are listed below:

Refused pre-March 2010:
DVLA Reply - Feb 2010 to a request for: Number of Triumph Spitfires taxed/sorn:
Under Section 12 of the FOI Act DVLA is not obliged to comply with a request where the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating, retrieving and extracting that information exceeds £600. This amount equates to 3.5 days worth of work and is provided for in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.
I would like to advise you that it may be possible for DVLA to provide the information requested at a later date due to the implementation of new IT systems, thereby bringing the cost of doing so below the appropriate limit. At present we have no exact date of implementation. However a short term solution to vehicle information is currently being tested. We are very hopeful that we will have some information available by the end of the March 2010. The data that should available will be Make / Model / Primary Colour /Secondary Colour / Vehicle Record Type and Tax Class. Please feel free to contact DVLA at a later date when I expect to have information available.

DVLA Reply - Nov 2010 to request for: How many Rover P3 cars made from 1948 to 1949 still exist either taxed or on SORN. I would like this supplied individually for the two main variants the P3 - 60 4 cylinder 1595cc model and the P3 - 75 6 cylinder 2103cc model.
The table in pdf link below provides the number of vehicles with a current licence or SORN in force on 22 August 2010 where the ‘Make’ is Rover and ‘Model’ is 60 or 75.

DVLA Reply - Oct 2010 to request for: Could you please supply me with the number of Daimler Sovereign motor vehicles fitted with a 2792cc engine that are currently taxed or SORNed.
As at the 22 August 2010 there were 6 licensed and 3 vehicles with a Statutory Off Road Notification where the make was Daimler and the model began with Sovereign where the engine capacity was 2792cc.

So, since about March 2010 vehicle data requests are being answered by DVLA but need to be realistic and lock down to years/models/cc, etc as stated if you want an answer.
Any ideas for Mini statistics we should request?
