Some more "found" pics, for those of you that don't know, the Illuminations restarted as a Classic event 25 years ago, after being a well known Motoring News Event before Road Rallies were banned !, Using Classic cars for the event got round some of the regulations for night events and what we ended up with was a classic Lancashire / Lakeland Night rally on the Saturday Night, with Tests on Saturday comprising of a dash round a car park to longer Farm yard tests / Stately homes, then a series of Auto tests on Morecambe prom on the Sunday morning, then a p*ss up on the Sunday afternoon prize giving
I did the event 3 times in the early 90s, then again a couple of times in the early noughtys, the early 90s were the hay day of the event with over 100 cars entered starting on the prom, usually flagged off by Tony Mason , Just to do these events, I stopped stageing my MK3 and reshelled and rebuilt it into my old Mk1 S that had sat outside for a number of years.
My ever lasting memory on the event was chasing Jonathan Everard in the ex works Healey SMO745 over the South Lakeland roads in the darkness of the early hours on the Night part of the event, what an awesome sight to follow, what must that car be worth now !
