Help in IDing these subframe marks

Post by Bertam »

I'm reposting this as the original thread seems to have been lost during the recent forum problems?
- -
A friend was hoping to identify these star shaped paint marks on the rear subframe from his unrestored North American specification 1965 Austin Cooper S? They are assumed to be factory as the car has been off the road for over forty years (after an accident in the early 70's). The subframe had never been removed before the current restoration commenced and this S had always been a road car.

Can anyone help with what these paint marks signify?

Regards,
Andrew

They are most likely to be inspectors / inspection marks. Stamped by a quality controller to say they have been checked.

Thanks Mark. :D

So they are equivalent to the subframe being "passed'? My friend is looking to make rubber stamps so to replicate them and we were curious if something was already available in that regard?

I just found the same stamp on a rear subframe from a late S.
Have to admit...never looked for these marks till I read this post.
