just thought i let everyone see the start of the restoration of my Sept 62 Austin Mini, bit of history first though
![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
My Uncle bought it from a nurse at the hospital he worked at. Not sure what year he bought but apparently when he went to look at it, the drivers door fell off lol. He bought it for a fiver, yes a fiver, and him and his best pal, who was a mechanic put a new battery on it and it started first time. They took it back home and started repairs.
It was the time when making mini's look sporty was all the rage so it from red to orange, a bigger engine, wheels etc.
In 1987 he gave it to me as an 18th birthday present, and my first car. I drove it for a while before starting a restoration on it, but then life and 2 kids got in the way blah blah blah........
Now the kids have grown up, no mortgage, no wife (yipee!!!), so I now have the finaces to do it up! So in February I dragged it out of my mum's garage where it had been sat for 27 years (ish). Dragged it down to mine and completely stripped it before being sent off for Acid Dipping at Surface Processing in Dudley. It's back from dipping now, which has thrown up a few surprises!!!! Firstly, the floor was worse than I thought so I have ordered complete floor from M Machine and I'm now awaiting it's arrival to start the first phase of reconstruction. Secondly, it's had a little bump in it's life .... a repair to the drivers side rear quarter panel. And thirdly, I've found a chasis number on it, which I had never spotted before, on the quadrant panel between the flitch panel and the main crossmember. Right inbetween the fuse box and the voltage regulator. Which is nice coz now I know it is a genuine chasis number. Here is some pictures of it and I'll keep everyone posted of it progress. Wish me luck!!!
