SU Carb Float Covers

During the course of rebuilding my 1.25 inch HS-2's for my 1275 Cooper S, I seem to have lost both float bowl tops! I have literally spent the last two weekends searching everywhere, but for whatever reason I seem to have lost them. Could someone post a picture of what the correct original covers look like for both the left and right? I presume these are single inlet covers and they use the split "Y" pipe to feed both.

Any chance anybody has a pair of correct originals they could sell?

Any help appreciated!

Gary

Gary, depending on the year the tops would be of a different style

My car is a 1964 Cooper S. Would that be single inlets on both carb tops?

The picture above shows the right combination of the lids. However note that there are subtle differences between the earlier ones and the later ones. Below is an example, the one on the left is off a 64 set and has a slight angle to the side of it, the right one is a later type.

the lids that were in used before that were entirely flat (off a 63 S), as per below picture

Thanks

Any idea when the later type tops started to be used? My carbs seem to be cobbled together albeit with right tags on.

Also my float bowls are slightly different, both AUC1310 but one has an extruded seam and the other doesn't, are either correct?

Folks, does anybody know what the 'T'shaped elbow supporting the brass spigot is for? Why does it differ?
The second photo shows this version where the previous pic shows the spigot with a slimmer elbow.
Does that make sense?? Building carbs for a 998 Cooper btw. Cheers

I'm sure it was a way to save money, the 'T' section top could have the feed pipe in any of the three positions for different applications [not mini]

Thanks Bob. You are the authority on these things so thanks for that.
Cheers. Mark
(Bit dissapointed that you didn't outline anything in red for me though LOL)

I don't mean to hi jack the thread but wondering about SU intakes. I have been ask to assemble a complete twin 1 1/4" SU system for a 67 Cooper S. Looking though my spares it seems I have several 998/997 intakes and a couple of 1071 intakes what I need is a later intake with two large vacuum ports. Should be able to mount a booster and PCV both. If someone would like to trade contact info in profile. Steve (CTR)
Edit: I think what I'm looking for is AEG 347 and I have 308s.

After another look I have found a intake that looks correct but has been opened up to take 1 1/2 SUs. It has a cast and a stamped number. 12A 661 P / AEG 347. I also have several 12A 309 P which are 997/998 intakes I believe. I think I have two AEG 179 P which I think are 1071 intakes. I'd still like to trade a 12A 309 for a 12A 661 P / AEG 347 in OE condition. Steve (CTR)

Back on Float Chamber Lids,

Two types were used.
Firstly this type below. I can't be certain on the original introduction date but I can be sure that it was re-drawn in August 1962. This would suggest that it was in production well before that. The earlier version would likely be the type without the 'lip' running round the circumference. This type is available new now from all good Mini Parts peeps and is period correct as from August 1962. (AUE 272)

Second type used is as below. Again, I can't be certain when it was first introduced and the type made new today is as shown, without the lettering and with the outer 'lip'. This I believe, is a post November 1976 version as that is when the lettering was removed from the drawings. The earliest versions of this lid I would say, are the type that do have lettering and no lip. However, If you had one with lettering and including the lip, I would say this is likely to be period correct too. (AUE 266)

Hope that helps.

Certainly helps me. Do you know what float bowls are correct for a '66, both of mine are variations of AUC1310 but one has an extruded seam and the other doesn't, are either correct?

Matt, the float chambers on yours ought to be smooth, without the raised seam on them. If I'm not mistaken that type started being produced late 60's begin 70's.
