hi all, is it advisable to use the later wider screen rubber or not? is the extra width taken up on the screen or the body?

Totally agree, I remove these rubbers, and replace them, with the original type, when a Mini comes to the garage,
with one of these terrible things fitted

I still wonder why Rover ever fitted them?? rust traps thats what they are.
and yes they look awfull

They do

but that flat/wide rubberseal, create a space, becourse it sit ON TOP of the recess
in the body, that are made to fit the old narrow rubber,
so condensation starts in the small space, and REALLY speed up the rust process
