Hi all,

I'm in the process of rebuilding the Twin 1.25 carbs off the Cooper, having the bodies rebushed etc. Obviously when back on the car it will need to be put on a rolling road.

I'm wondering whether to put a different inlet manifold on prior to the RR. can anyone recommend a good set up?, I was thinking of a Maniflow steel variant. They are pricey but I was wondering if it will be worth the wonga or not, has anyone used one on a 998cc cooper?...more or less standard engine....(K&N filters, Maniflow works type exhaust, 997cc Camshaft)

Couple of comments here. First is that with the changes you are suggesting to filter, cam, and exhaust then going to the 'rich' M needle for the Cooper 998 should get you in the right ball park.

Other comment is the steel Maniflow manifold for twin HS2s is generally reckoned to be one of the best around for the A-series motor, and with a large bore motor is reckoned to be good for up to about 110bhp at the flywheel when running 'vizarded' HS2s. However your Cooper won't be anywhere near this output, and I think that with a carefully modified BMC inlet manifold you won't find much difference between this and the Maniflow.

There is a good section in Vizards 'Tuning BL's A-series Engine' on how to modify the standard BMC inlet manifold for twin HS2s.

It sounds like I'm better off keeping the original manifold, not much difference you reckon....so probably not worth the outlay.

The car isn't really a trackday warrior more something I just potter about in.....I just thought if it gave good results, while the carbs are off and it will be going to the RR at Minisport for Rob to sort, I would dig deep. But sounds as if I'd be better off keeping hold of the beer tokens for something else........i.e. BEER
