I got these in a job lot of bits and was wondering if it's worth doing anything with them? They are five stud and the ends look like wrap around to my untrained eye. They're a little battered and the chrome isn't much cop. Someone's also helpfully cut a slit in the end of one of them.

Worth repairing? Any value in them?

They would take a lot of time & effort to put right.

But may fit better than modern repros by the time they are finished.

It wouldn't be a cheap exercise though.

So, are these the original type bumpers then? With the correct end profile?

TBH I have no idea. I was assuming that they were original ones.

No doubt someone will be along shortly who can identify these as original or not.

Without having a genuine early bumper to compare with have you got an original early overider to offer up to your bumpers.?
The later bumpers have a poor profile compared to earlier ones and the overiders rarely fit well.

they just look like the cheap generic aftermarket bumpers that where available in the 1980's

they normally had five holes punched in them, but only three studs fitted (but I have seen them with five studs)

ive seen a few unwary people pay stupid money for new ones on ebay over the years thinking they where genuine n.o.s ones

its very difficult to see the differences in a photo (like it is with s rims and reverse rims!), but the aftermarket ones look a bit more like john majors top lip( ), rather than having the tight, normal shape of a proper bumper.

I have the original over riders which were on them. What am I looking for fit wise? They looked pretty good fit to me (then again, how can I tell they're original?)

With rechroming at £180 each and a 6 week wait id want to be sure

I was quoted £120 per bumper but that wouldn't include any repair work, just strip polish and rechromed. I have bought some new genuine stainless ones for my mk1 for £40 each they are narrow profile for over riders and will find out how good the fit is the weekend. Have kept the originals just in case as they are in pretty good shape just dull and a bit pitted, would of thought those ones are beyond economical repair unless you can straighten and repair yourself.

As mentioned by others , your bumpers look like they would require an awful lot of work
