hi guys, im restoring my mk2..what do you guys do when the inner door panel, is corroded? do you buy a new door? as they are so expensive..
im trying to find used doors but they all seem to have the same problem. the upper inner rail, where the windows slide, beneath that area there is a sort of rounded edge which goes from the back to the front of the car. is there someone who does replacements for that area? as i don't know how to repair the holes in this corroded area.its very hard to fill up with welds and grind down...any suggestions before i spend 1k on 2 doors?
thanks guys
good evening.

It may be the rain channel section that you speak of.
Here's a pic of one of my nearside doors that had to be rebuilt. The top channel had rusted out in about 3 places and needed replacing.
All the bits can be had from M Machine, but the job is a fiddle.

Ahh, right. Got you.
A forum member, 1071 bob posted some pics up a short while ago and that particular section of door was in shown in one of his pics.
It looked brand new, but that repair section doesn't appear on the M Machine site. I keep on meaning to ask Bob if the repair section was made by himself, (possible, because Bob is ace at that sort of thing) or it is a M Machine repair section that I am unaware of.
I hope they are available. I'll be able to save another couple of doors from the scrapheap.

I need that inner panel with the round edge fluting for a door off my '60.
It has a perfect original inner/outer skin but the water channel has rusted away. For that reason, I didn't use it on the car but stored it up in case I could repair it at some point.
Not sure if I can get that panel off without destroying it to get at the channel.

I think I have a set of mk2 doors with that intact. However my body man used another set and made the repair section at the front of the door on one side with little trouble. It's invisible once primed and painted

This is the panel you want. [the top one!

]

I had to make them up myself, and I wasn't aware that M-Machine made the lower channel and separate angle piece so I made them as well!

I still have the tooling to make them but I can't do the tapered end section at the moment but I'm working on that. Here's the picture mentioned by 'InimiaD.

Bob,if you are still in a position to make them I would be very interested in 4 as I have doors that are saveable if I could get this panel.
