Mixing transmissions

I am sure there was a good post on here concerning the mixing of 3 and 4 syncro flywheel housings and gearboxes. Anyone find it?
I am thinking of using a 3 syncro flywheel housing with an 1128 gearbox and using the 4 syncro idler bearing. Is this possible?

You can fit the 3 syncho housing to the 4 syncho box (up to 79), but the bearings in the 3 syncho flywheel housings while taking the same shaft dia, the bearing itself has a smaller OD. I did look once to see if there was enough meat there to machine them out to take the bigger (and better) bearing, and while I can't recall for certain as I sit here, I don't think you can.

there is certainly enough meat to machine the case out, I once had to drag the local bloke who had a machine shop in his garden out of the pub to machine my case out!

he was so pissed that he could hardly stand up, but managed to do a spot on job
