Headlamp conversion 1959 Morris Minor

Hello,

Some years ago I bought my 1959 one, but till now there was not the time to prepare the car for legal registration in Europe. It is a rhd car with untouched original main cable harness and also genuine bulb back-shells for the headlamps. For registration here, I need to convert the headlamps to European type Reflectors. Recently I found two original European Lucas 700 units but do not know how to convert without changing the headlamp cables. I do not like to cut the original cables. Is there perhaps another option? Thank you very much for any information.

Best regards

Hi,

Perhaps one way you could overcome the problem is to make up little "adapter cables" that allow you to attach the 700s without chopping the harness.

I did exactly this on my Oz '72 clubman - to convert from column key to centre console key, I made up a series of cables that one end plugged in the original harness, the other to the back of the mk1 mini ign barrel.

All the fittings are stock items available anywhere.

cheers,

Jacob

The headlamp cables unplug from bullets behind the grille, so why not simply pull them apart and remove them from the bowls then put them in a safe place till you need them again. Then you can plug in the new looms to the existing bullet connectors.
