Speedwell Rev Gauge to electronic ignition

Hi all, just made an offer on and subsequently bought this Speedwell rev gauge:

Just wondering if it is likely to work with electronic ignition, as I know the Smiths RVI types often dont work, but there is no indication of the movement type of this Speedwell gauge. Any ideas?

Cheers, Victor

No it won't. Best to buy the conversion thingy from spiyda. I have just done my 8000rpm speedwell gauge and it went fine.

See recommended section there is a link to his website.
Mine was marked RVI. The marking were right at the top of the face just under the lip. You can just see them.

As above.

Not much to add to the above. You purchased an impulse (RVI type) tachometer. While there are exceptions, generally they will not work properly with electronic ignitions.

The clue to identifying the tach is the loop of white wire on its back. That's the induction loop which is unique to impulse tachs. However, later RVI tach placed that loop inside the gauge so the outward clue on those is/are a pair of bullet connectors, one male, one female.

Thanks everyone, I will send it off to Spiyda to be converted - just need to find the correct pod for it now.

While tidying the shed out the other day I found 4 of the repro pods I did a few years ago.

These are available at £55 & are exactly the same as an original Speedwell pod but 1/2 the price.

I wouldn't mind one of those Mark if they're still available (I take it they'll fit any 80mm tacho) - also any news on the 64-65 black suction cups front?

The black suction cups are on hold at the moment as I have just had to move garages & everything is a bit up in the air at the moment, they will be done before long though.

The move was the reason I found the 4 Speedwell pods though.

If you do want one, please Paypal £61.50 inc P&P to mark@the-forsters.co.uk & I will post out by return.

Assuming this one is sold, I have 1 left.

Hi Mark, payment duly sent. No worries on the suction cups either, at least I know everything is in hand.

Payment received. Only 1 left. I won't be making any more as the metal spinners went bust.
