Anyone got any idea's or photo's on this. The car will be used for road & sprinting but whilst it's out seems like a good idea.

I personally wouldn't bother, unless it's for rough off road events, i've only ever broken one bracket that mounts from the radius arm to the Subframe in a lot of years of rallying.

Interesting topic, here's a photo of a rear subframe crossmember which has been made into a box section, in addition to that the lower surfaces of the frame beneath the rubber spring & trumpet are double thickness & filleted to the front beam, this does not look like a DIY job, could it be a works frame built for the East African Safari? It has all the holes provided for centre or side exhaust & hydro pipes, if required.

For road and sprints may be better with beam axel save the weight.
But I would concur never seen one break without just reason..(rust)

I am interested in the boxing of the rear section. I have read the Vizard book but always felt that the rear of the subframe, where people often put a jack, distorts a bit so would like to beef it up a bit. The corner gussets he suggests look like a good idea.

Strengthening for rough rallies (apart from double skinning the radius arm bracket) was really about going over the spot welds to make sure nothing came apart. I double skinned the bottom on all four corners on a car built to do the RAC Rally but it was really just adding weight unnecessarily.
The last thing you want to be doing on a speed event (sprint of hill climb) car is adding weight anywhere. A beam axle would put you out of the Roadgoing or Modprod categories and into Sports Libre against sports racing cars.
