The thing that made me laugh was that when they filmed it they said that they would let both me & the pub where we had lunch know when it was to be transmitted, we didn't hear anything for months, but then on Friday with the BBC's typical thriftyness we both received a Special delivery letter telling us the date! More of our money well spent!

My 59 Guiletta Sprint has had a lot of restoration work, but I still like to go for a drive in it!

Can anyone give me a rough idea of what time in the programme it's on. Two reasons, one I couldn't bear to watch the whole thing and secondly with only 700kbps per second download i-player is a painful experience.

Mine either!! Not a great attitude...

As I mentioned on the early mini forum, its easy to spoof your country location by using a proxy server in the UK. Its completely legal and not harmful to your computer. I'm happy to post up details on how to do it if you're really keen to watch it. You might find it a bit slow, but you can get around that with a downloader like the one Mark suggested.

In all fairnes to the BBC the reason that the i-player is not easily available overseas is that we (UK residents) have to pay for their services & it's not "really" fair if the rest of the world get their output for free. They would also rather sell their output to other broadcasters than give it away for nothing.

Having said that using a proxy server & download software you can do it pretty easily.

I'll post it in here, its not highly relevant to the rest of the discussions here.

All you do is change your proxy settings to use a free proxy server in the UK.

Go to this site and copy one of the IP addresses off the list http://nntime.com/proxy-country/United-Kingdom-01.htm
Next set the proxy setting in your browser:

If you use Firefox go Tools>Options, then click the 'Advanced' tab, then the 'Network' tab and click on 'Settings'. In the window that comes up, click on 'Manual proxy configuration' and paste the IP address into the box labeled 'HTTP Proxy'. Note that the IP address has a colon ":" followed by a number (either 80 or 8080) at the end, this indicates the port to use. Delete the colon and the number off the end, then in the box labeled 'Port', enter the 80 or 8080 as appropriate. Close all the windows and you should be right.

If you use Internet Explorer then go Tools>Internet Options, click on the 'Connections' tab them click the 'LAN settings' button. Spoofing proxy settings is one of the techniques that dodgy internet users use to make them hard to track down, I imagine that the internet police aren't fooled by it for more than a second or two, so don't try anything naughty! There's no guarantee it will work, it will depend a bit on the settings your ISP uses. If you're doing this from home you probably don't have anything already set as your proxy server, but if you do it from your workplace there's a good chance you will, so it will probably break your existing connection and you'll need to call the IT guy to put it back. He'll want to know what you were up to.

I agree with Mark, the BBC protects its stuff for a reason, so to balance things up people in the UK who pay their television license fee have my permission to use this technique to watch stuff from the ABC in exchange. It is mostly re-runs of "The Bill" and "Doctor Who", sorry the ABC doesn't make "Neighbours".
