Brooklands Museum secures Heritage Lottery Fund investment
One of the UK’s most historically significant sites for motoring, aviation and engineering is to undergo a significant redevelopment to bring to life more of its remarkable history, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, Surrey, has today received a confirmed grant of £4.681million from HLF for its ‘Brooklands Aircraft Factory & Race Track Revival Project’.
This project will transform the Museum’s Grade II listed Second World War Wellington Hangar into ‘The Brooklands Aircraft Factory’; build a new annexe (the ‘Flight Shed’) to house more of the Museum’s outstanding collection of historic aircraft; and restore the Finishing Straight of the Brooklands Race Track, the world’s first purpose-built motor-racing circuit.

"All types of Mini (including the modern BMW) are invited to this annual event, so expect displays in all areas of the Museum site. From the oldest to the newest, this year’s event will see some of the earliest examples nestling among hundreds of Minis and their variations including vans and pickups. As always Test Hill will be in action (subject to weather). There will be a variety of trade stands offering mini parts, spares and memorabilia."

boring fact
ive got a tin of used spark plugs that came out of a racing WO Bentley
my grandfather was given them by a race mechanic who was working on a car when he went to watch the cars racing at Brooklands.
I guess he would have been 14-15 when he went down on the train for the day.
he was that impressed with the cars and the time that the mechanic and driver had for him that he kept the little tin of plugs in his garage all his life, they are now in mine.
his father also had a Indian motorcycle, as a treat my grandfather was allowed to ride it to school when he was 14 - I bet he looked like a proper BOSS when he turned up on it - ive a photo somewhere off him looking proud as punch sat on it

I used to live in Weybridge back in the 80's (The poor end) and was a member of the Brooklands society for many years I never thought it would turn out the way it has!! Excellent. I used to work at AC cars inside the track OH the fun we used to have being chased by security while charging round the banking! The Boss had a Blower Bentley and I remember a ride down the runway at 100mph that car scared the shite out of me......................
