Pancake filter fitment

Ok - this is going to sound like a stupid question with a very simple answer but bear with me ... (oh and it's a Mk3 question as well)

I'm running a 998 A+ with Minispares Stage 1 kit in my Mk1-alike Rally Mini with single 1.5" SU. I've never been able to fit an air filter (including a thin pancake) as it fouls the bulkhead. I've alway had to stick with a short stub stack.

Anyone else had same problem??

It's not something really annoying me, but I'd like to get a filter back on again.

Just a thought Ian, would a thinner spacer between the carb and manifold make any difference? I'm wondering if the subframe cross member is the trouble or the speedo aperture. I use a conical k and n with an mg manifold but then a 1275 is a bit taller

Ian,

I had similar problem, this was in a Mini-Marcos with 998 fitted. The 1/4 difference in block height meant that the HS4 jet was too close to the bulkhead.

I cut the engine steady bar and made it adjustable, so this could then tilt the engine forward and just get enough clearance between the carb and bulkhead (the carb lifts up as you tilt the engine forward).

Not exactly the same as your problem, but similar approach might work.

I'm actually using the thinner spacer already. I'm going to fit a 12G295 head so will take another go at trying to get it sorted.

I've got a 998 with a minispares kit and it fits fine with the standard HS4 airbox.
