Diagonal tyres

We all know that mixing radials and diagonals are absolutely lethal on a Mini.

I've got two CR65s on 4,5" wheels and I'm thinking of fitting a set of old wide Avon GT tyres to the other end. Will this work?

While both are excellent tyres in their own right, I wouldn't mix them. CR65s are a bit strange to use on the road anyway. The Avons are excellent road/rally tyres, but the ones you have must be a bit old now. Could give you another old pair to go with your old pair.

This is for a road car, never driven in anger so to speak...Could I get away with it? :)

Probably not for long, the ditch awaits!

Haha. I hear what you guys are saying, but I don't understand why. The problem with mixing radials and diagonals is that they "break away" rather differently.

Why would these diagonals be so different?

I guess it's time to get another set of CR65s then...
