I just found a set of these of Flebay, does anyone know what the centre cap design looks like? I have checke dthe Wheel Directory and the one on there has a custom centre, and the catalogues on the main Mk1 site are too early.

If anyone has a picture or a scan of a brochure that would be great.

Thanks

The MkIII Cosmic in the Wheel Dictionary used to be mine. Somebody 'painted' in the black background with Photo Paint. AFAIK the centre cap is a standard one, albeit a reproduction, that came in with MkII models. BTW before I refurbished the wheel it looked very similar to yours. Here's some centre caps for sale.

Man those are ugly condition caps.....they should be in the trash.
Measure your centres....new (maybe repro) are readily available

Cheers for the replies, and yes those old centres are cream crackered.

Whilst searching Ebay today I found an old advert...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Adve ... 2ed8f78080

...which shows the Mk3 Cosmic had a different type of centre. The diameter of the centre, where the cap fits, measures 65mm, so the repops are no good. I have found something close but they are in Hong Kong and are probably plastic junk. I might drop in one day Rich to see if you have anthing lying about at Harrogate.

PS. I've given the wheels a good wash, they still look the same. Next it's out with the paint stripper to get the thick layer of silver paint of. I'm hoping that it is enamel so it should just fall off. The wheels them selves are in good nick with no rim damage, and all the steel tappers are still fitted.

I had someone centre caps spun for some wheels I have, then got some badges made by StickyFingers to suit. Look quite good if you don't want original

It is amazing how different all 3 examples of the Mk3 Cosmic look. Compared to the ones I have the one Luis posted is quite different with a raised rib connecting the slots and raised ribs between the "spinner" and slots. The one in the cosmic advert looks to have larger slot holes than both the ones posted with the raised rib!

Graeme

I did the same with the Dunlop D1s I refurbished. I got my vinyl badges from Classic Capsule and someone spun some new centres using an old centre as a pattern. The centres and badges almost cost as much as the wheels.

OK, I was wrong about the caps. One of the wheels I refurbed had a cap. So here's an after picture with the "custom" caps available at the time. It shows what you can do by hand with files and sand paper. The wheel is powder coated natural aluminum.

and here's a before picture.

Larry that refurbed wheel looks great. I did a similar thing with the D1s I've got. It took about 3 days to do the set including painting.

Blue. I'm not sure how long it took me but 3 days each seems about righ. I had more time than money at the time so did it myself. In the end I did 6. I bought the first 2 on a whim and then got 2 more from another source (the illustrious Damian Mason of Cosmic Wheel website fame) and then 2 more showed up. I was going to put them of my Traveller but a set of Cosmic Ribsters showed up instead.

Here's what the Ribster looks like. Originally finished in grey enamel, now natural aluminum powder.
