I have a January 1960 Austin 850 that appears to be very original with mostly correct dated parts. I just realized that the the Speedo is SN4410/00 with a triangular pointer consistent with Morris. Is it possible that it was installed at the factory or has it definitely been replaced? Couldn't find date on the speedo. are they dated?if so, and where?
Also the two panel swtiches on the sides are plastic toggles whereas parts list shows metal toggles.

Plastic toggles are correct. The speedo is correct for a Morris in 1960 but not an Austin, as you say. The Austin version is cream faced with a red needle.
Oddly though, your car appears to be cherry red which is a Morris colour, or am I mistaken about the colour?

The dash liners also appear to be Morris?

I have a 63 austin countryman with silver speedo. Is this correct??

I have a March 1960 Austin and that also has a Morris type speedo fitted . Was this a thing that happened back then ??

My speedo looks to all Original and not been messed with

Does your chassis number end in an 'M'? This could explain the Morris speedo in an Austin.

NO! Sorry this isn't a Morris mistaken for an Austin. everything but the speedo is Austin, VIN badges etc. Curiously Somerford lists the SN4410/00 for the '61-62 Austins.

Plastic toggle switch didn't work; Stuck and wouldn't go over center. So ground off the rivet holding it together to see what it looked like. Couldn't tell what was wrong with it but doesn't look easy to put back together again.
Thanks for the responses. Looks like an anomaly like STG95F's. I'm checking with another guy that has a car built within one week of this to see what he has on his.

I am waiting for a Heritage Cert to arrive on my car . Will let you know with more details

Going by your contact plate in the top of your picture there is a height difference on the contacts worth trying to sort as these original switches are getting rare

Not according to Smith's.

Your car's are 50+ years old. Early Mini speedometers are prone to the odometer sticking because of a worn total pawl, even after relatively low mileage. I recall going to a local scrappy with my father to get a 'new' speedo for my mother's Morris Mini Traveller (Smoke Grey, incidentally) after the odometer stuck as it went up to 25000 miles. He took the replacement apart and set the mileage to something like correct. Do you seriously think you would be able to tell if the speedometer in your car was replaced on Saturday 17th May 1969 after a trip to a local scrappy?

So somerford's info may be correct. I found that odd too. I am now thinking that the speedo has been replaced probably during that time period as it would probably show that as the replacement speed. Not sure but the 17xxx odometer is rather low for this car (definitely hasn't turned over). The LH Drivers door hinges have been replaced but the PAX side is OK. Steering wheel had weathering so wasn't a good indicator of mileage. Normally the wear on a steering wheel indicates usage.
