Post by davidnutland »

Hi all, my ignition light just glows when the engine is running, it is bright when the key is turned on fire-up the light glows, engine rpm makes no difference, the fan belt is tight, how do I check if the problem is dynamo or control box?

tips welcomed please.

One thing I suggest that you don't do, at least not yet, don't play with the adjustment of the voltage regulator.

If car has been sitting unused for a bit, the voltage regulator contacts might be dirty/ and or the mechanism might have stuck. A gentle tap on the box might solve this.

Could be stuck/ worn brushes in the dynamo.

Check the workshop manual for test procedure of Dynamo/ control box.

Well done, sort of coiled spring? I hope that you can get one. It was a long time ago that I rebuilt my Mini dynamo, probably around 1970. I still have the car, a 1962, same dynamo!
