VIN stamping
Just noticed the VIN on my 1960 mini is stamped from above but most are reverse stamped (embossed). Anyone any idea when this was changed or was it random in the early days?

Re: VIN stamping
I think it was some early Cowly Built Morris's that were front stamped. I have had one in the past. No doubt someone will be able to confirm.

Re: VIN stamping
Yes Early Morris cars were stamped or more like etched on the VIN Tag .
Hope that helps

Re: VIN stamping
My Oct '59 Morris mini VIN is stamped from above.
The font has a heavy serif - like Times New Roman but more so.

Re: VIN stamping
Yes stamped for Cowley (Morris) built cars , including Austins built there + usually have an M on the end of the number
Also the plates were etched aluminium where the black goes rather than screen printed on a flat surface
