That other bit is what that stupid nut punched out of piston! Found both the nut and the other bit in the gearbox.

The really odd thing about that nut job is that although the nut must have been rattling round behind the valve for ages, as soon as it finally made it past the valve & into the combustion chamber it punched a hole straight through on the first attempt. Usually these will rattle around for a few seconds before punching through making a real mess of the top of the piston. Yours is particularly minimalist!
