Hi I'm going to have a look at what is suppose to be a 997 Cooper engine . I know the obvious , 202 cylinder head . Tappet chest covers , 1000 tag on block , no hole for mechanical pump . But how will I know that it isn't a 1100 engine block . What markings should the block, crank , rods , have ? .... Thanks ... Ken

Late 997 and early 1098/998 blocks are identical except for bore size

I have a couple that don't have a tag, but have 1000 cast in back of block.
One day I'll get around to photography the different variations!

The MiniMania thing is quite good, but I have spotted an error...
For the 970 & 1071 'S' engines, it says:-
"bore diameter of 2.4375"
970cc Cooper 'S'
"bore diameter of 2.687"
1071cc Cooper 'S'
These inch measurements are the stroke,
all the 'S' bores are the same at 2.78".
I'll let them know, they are quite receptive to fixing
"anomalies" on their site.
