I need a value.....

Sadly my 1961 Morris 850 Mini was destroyed by fire on Monday 1st November. I had just taken it on the previous Saturday to the paint shop for the first part of it's paint job during the final stages of it's restoration.
Chassis number YMA2S1 70132/
3656 I believe was about the 12th oldest known in Australia.
What I would like is to make conact with owners of Morris 850s close to this chassis number and an idea of where they value their cars.
I need to present evidence of value for my insurance claim. This was no ordinary Mini, it was totally original, un-molested and solid, requireing only three small welding operations to make the shell perfect.
Your thoughts....?
Mark.

i hope you get a payout that refelcts its condition and value
was it the fault of the paint shop?

The paint shop was a casualty of a neighbouring workshops fire, it spread into the paintshop very quickly. People on the scene say that the Fire Brigade could have stopped the spreading, but thats just down to opinion....
Have you clicked on the thumbnail pic and looked at the rest?
I'm absolutly gutted....!

thats gutting Mark.
i don't know what to say, all that effort and then this. its heart breaking.
unsure of current values in QLD but there have been several 850's sold in NSW for $12K. and here in VIC it seems to be similar. these are of course exquisite examples.
keep us informed as to how you go.

Terrible news Mark, real bad luck, I feel gutted for you......
I agree, 850's are really getting up there, The Throttle Shop in Sydney just sold one for a top sum, maybe contact them:

See 4th row RH side
http://www.classicthrottleshop.com/soldcars.htm
I think it has to be 10 - 15K Aus for such a significant car.......

I work in the insurance industry and cover many motor trade premises. I presume you will be claiming from the bodyshop's insurance. The policy will be on an indemnity basis, ie you should be in a position after the claim as that before, in other words be able to take your claims settlement and replace your vehicle (obviously not always easy with such a rare car). Do as much homework as you can on recent values and make sure you are involved in the negotiation with any loss adjuster.
If you need any more advice don't hesitate to ask.
Steve
Edited to add my apologies for your bad luck.

That's a real shocker mate, real crap thing to happen. As well as all the owners of the other cars there. Terrible photos.
Make sure you get in contact with the owners of the other cars caught in that garage, so you can be together to get the correct and full compensation for each of you. Frogeye steel fronts must be rocking horse shit these days, for instance - rare!

Guys, thanks for the input.
Steve, although the Insurance system appears to work in a different way here in Aus, I'm sure most of the basics are similar. I'm sure I'll be intouch for some of your words of wisdom. Can you PM me an email address I can write to you on please.
austinisuseless, good thought... not sure how I'll do that but I'll try. The MGB owner is a client of mine and the car was at the workshop via me and the Frogeye bonnet was mine too....! At least I have located another in similar condition. Sadly it's down Melbourne way...
Graham, thanks for the link. I see his is a slightly later car but still a sliding window Mk1. I'll contact them to see if they would be kind enough to verify the sale price.
In the meantime, it's lots of letters and frustration. I know I'll loose out in the end, I always do... On the bright side, I have had a sniff of a '64 Cooper...
Mark.

How gutting, very sorry to see such bad luck! My dad fell victim to a very similar situation, he lost his lotus europa in a fire in a paint shop which turned out to be an insurance job from the bloke that owned to bloody paint shop. Back then when this happened he ended up with sweet fa so i hope your much more successful in recuperating your loss. looks like it will be difficult to replace though so i hope the insurance company dont try and wangle there way out of it and give you half what its worth! is the shell totally distorted? it looks that way from the rear photo. What a shame!!!!!
